Day 4: We Are Made to Last Forever

Live each day as if it were the last day of your life.

Yesterday, we learned what drives our life. What did you think about it? Any thoughts? Comments?

Today’s reading is a tough one for me to write about. I found I had trouble concentrating on it. I had many distractions. So, it won’t be as long as my other blogs. If you have the book, I encourage you to follow along. If you don’t, I encourage you to buy a copy or see if it’s at your local library. Here is what today’s reading is basically about- we are made to last forever. There is life beyond earth existence.

I have a hard time seeing that we are made to last forever. I don’t know what is at the end of the road. Or if there even is an end of the road.

Here is the point to ponder for today: There is more to life than just here and now.

Verse to remember: “This world is fading away, along with everything it craves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.” 1 John 2:17 (NLT)

And the question to consider: Since I was made to last forever, what is the one thing I should stop doing and the one thing I should start doing today?

Since we are made to last forever, I believe I should stop wanting so many stuff. In a previous blog, I mentioned that I have always wanted more. Material objects are not that important. What is more important is the desire to please God. To help others who need our help. What is the one thing I should start doing? Thinking about others before myself. I spend too much time thinking about myself. If I stopped to think of others before myself, all my worries about what other people think about me may fade. I may stop feeling resentment and anger as I previously mentioned in a blog.

Day 2: You Are Not An Accident.

Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God.

Before we begin day two’s journey, let’s recap what we learned from day one. First of all, it’s not about you. God created you. Did you remind yourself that life is really about living for God? How did that go? I wrote it on the palm of my hand and looked at it from time to time. I also made a notecard of it and stuck it in the book as a bookmark.

Day 2’s journey coincides with what we learned from day 1. The message for us to learn today is “You are not an accident.” So, we learned that God created us. Did you know he created us for a purpose? Yup! God had us in mind the whole time. He knew us before we were even before. Some of us, to our parents, may have been accidents. But to God, there are no accidents. He knows the journey we take and the struggles we face. He feels sorry when we go astray. The way your body looks, yup, God made it that way! I hadn’t picked out any words or phrases that stuck out to me this time, because I wanted you to read and find what sticks out to you.

Today’s verse to remember is: “I am your Creator. You were in my care even before you were born.” Isaiah 44:2 (CEV)

The Question to Consider: I know that God uniquely created me. What areas of my personality, background, and physical appearance am I struggling to accept?

Today’s journey is a hard one for me because I am always negative about myself. It’s hard for me to put my mind around God uniquely created me. That he had a purpose in mind. I am full of flaws and no matter how much I try, the flaws always build up. How can God have a purpose in someone like me? I have always struggled to accept my physical appearance. Truth is, I still struggle with it. There are days I am so negative to my body image. But I have learned to like some parts- such as my eyes. I started wearing makeup at least in college and love it because of how creative you can be, all the colors you can use, and how it just makes me feel beautiful inside and out. As for background, I am Asian Indian but have lived in America all my life. So, my Asian background goes unnoticed for me. I fail to think about it, to learn it, and embrace it. My personality is a challenge. I hate being the shy girl or the girl who can’t find the words to say out loud. With writing, I am full of words. But talking to someone in person, I am speechless! I have to remind myself that God created me this way for a reason. That reason I do not know. But I have to trust and have faith in it.

So what are your challenges you face? Anything about your personality, physical appearance or background you struggle to embrace? Remember God created you in his own image. He had a purpose for you. Every little thing you go through fulfills that purpose.

Day 1: It’s Not About You.

You were made by God and for God- and until you understand that, life will never make sense.

Remember: “It’s not about you” (17). “You didn’t create yourself, so there is no way you can tell yourself what you were created for!” (18). YOU were made FOR GOD. “You may choose your careeer, your spouse, your hobbies, and many other parts of your life, but you don’t get to choose your purpose” (21).

Above I took some notes on what you should remember from today’s reading. What’s important out of it. What stuck out to me. For today, let us ponder on “It’s not about me.” Let us put our self in God’s hands. Let’s trust and have faith that he knows what he is doing. Having faith and trusting in something we don’t see is one of the hardest things we can do. So, let’s take it one day- one step at a time.

Today’s verse to remember is: “Everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.” Colossians 1:16b (Msg)

Today’s question to consider: In spite of all the advertising around me, how can I remind myself that life is really about living for God, not myself?

This question for me is the hardest. When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time at church volunteering. So, I spent a lot of time with God, right? Wrong. I spent my busy life doing things. The only time I had thought about God was when someone brought him up or on Sundays at church. To this day, I still struggle with spending time with God. We all think about things we need to do. But is God in our things to do list? For some, he may not be. Others, he may be at the bottom. God wants to be first on your list. The only way of knowing who you really are is through him. You didn’t create yourself. He created you. He has the knowledge of you. He knows how many strands of hair is on your head. So, how can I remind myself that life is really living for God? It’s a tough question. Making a notecard with the words “It’s not all about me,” could help me remember that there is something far greater in life than just me. If a notecard is hard to keep with you throughout the day, then write it on the palm of your hand with a marker. You can always wash it off at the end of the day.

If you are reading this and feel like you lost and not-so-close-to God, now is the time to get a step closer to him. God has always been reaching out his hand for you. He’s been waiting for you to come back to him. In my previous blog, I mentioned Jesus asking, “Will you not spend one hour with me?” All God wants is to be a part of your life. If it’s your first time, spend 5 minutes one day with God. Journal about it. See how you felt. Was it awkward? Did you like it? Next day add another 5 minutes with God. It two days you have spent 15 minutes with God. Keep adding 5 minutes to your day for God until it becomes natural for you. It will be hard and there may be days you don’t think you need to. But those are the days you need him in your life.

Thanks as always for spending time with me. I would love to have a discussion about this journey. If you would like to be a part of the discussion, feel free to comment. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I love answering comments!! :))
